BRAIN
A disease that disrupts the function or structure of the brain is called encephalopathy. There are several diseases that include encephalopathy abnormalities. In some types of diseases, some are permanent and some are only temporary. In addition, some types appear from birth and never change.
In general, this disease cannot be cured. However, early and accurate treatment can help control symptoms and prevent the patient's condition from worsening. Here are a number of diseases that include encephalopathy brain disorders:
- 1) Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy
- - This disease occurs when there is trauma or multiple injuries to the brain. The trauma can cause nerve damage to the brain. This type of encephalopathy is often found in boxers, football players, or military personnel.
- 2) Glycine encephalopathy
- - Glycine encephalopathy is a genetic disease that can be passed down, that is when glycine levels are too high in the brain. Glycine is one of the amino acids. This disease appears immediately after birth.
- 3) Hashimoto's encephalopathy
- - This disease is rare and related to Hashimoto's disease. Hashimoto's disease is an autoimmune condition in which the body's immune system mistakenly attacks the thyroid organ.
- 4) Hepatic encephalopathy
- - Hepatic encephalopathy is caused by liver disease. When the liver organ does not function properly, toxins cannot be removed from the body. As a result, the poison will accumulate in the blood and can spread to the brain.
- 5) Hypertensive encephalopathy
- - This disease is caused by long-term severe hypertension that is not treated. As a result, the brain can become swollen which can lead to brain damage and hypertensive encephalopathy.
- 6) Hypoxic Ischemic Encephalopathy
- - This condition is caused by the brain not getting enough oxygen. As a result, the brain can experience permanent damage. One example of a case is a fetus exposed to alcohol.
- 7) Metabolic Toxic Encephalopathy
- - This type of encephalopathy is caused by infection, poison, or it can also be due to the failure of an organ. Imbalance of electrolytes and hormones in the body can have an impact on brain function. Infections and poisons also affect the brain. Usually, encephalopathy will heal when the cause is overcome.
- 8) Infectious encephalopathy
- - This transmissible disease is also known as prion disease. Prions are natural body proteins, but they can mutate and cause diseases that gradually damage and reduce the function of your brain (neurodegenerative diseases).
- 9) Uremic encephalopathy
- - Caused by the disease of kidney failure, resulting in the accumulation of uremia poison in the blood.
- 10) Wernicke's encephalopathy
- - This disease, also known as wernicke's disease, is caused by vitamin B1 deficiency. Some of the causes include long-term alcohol use, poor nutrition and food malabsorption.
Symptoms of Encephalopathy
Symptoms vary greatly depending on the cause and severity. In general, symptoms can be:
- 1) Memory and focus problems.
- 2) Impaired ability to solve problems.
- 3) Personality changes.
- 4) Lethargic.
- 5) Sleepy.
- 6) Muscle weakness in one area.
- 7) Difficulty making decisions or concentrating.
- 8) Involuntary wrinkles.
- 9) Trembling.
- 10) Difficulty speaking or swallowing.
- 11) Convulsions.
- 12) Coma.
- 13) Death.
